Training & Experience

Dr. Auer began her multidisciplinary perspective of Audiology with a research start in Linguistics, working for the Research Foundation SUNY StonyBrook in speech acoustics, phonetics and phonology, while completing her BA in Linguistics.  From there she completed a Graduate Research Fellowship with a study on speech perception and production of children utilizing cochlear implants.  She has experience and training from Manhattan Eye and Ear Cochlear Implant Center, Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Northport Veteran's Medical Center, NY, and SUNY Stony Brook University Medical Center.  Graduate work included studying with Dr. Robert Jirsa, professor of Neuro-audiology, electrophysiology, and Auditory Processing Disorders at SCSU, where Dr Auer had a rare opportunity to expand linguistics training to the specialty of Auditory Processing Disorders and conduct Aural Rehabilitation and Auditory Processing Disorder therapy--not just diagnostic testing.  Dr. Auer is one of few audiologist conducting diagnostic studies of late response Auditory Electrophysiology such as P300 and MLR for patients with auditory processing disorders.  During doctoral work with instructors such as Pawel Jastreboff, PhD.,  the speech perception, language acquisition, auditory processing disorders, and psychoacoustics were complimented by depth of study in tinnitus and hyperacusis including study of numerous tinnitus therapy techniques and programs.  Dr. Auer presented her own clinical study on tinnitus therapy at the American Academy of Audiology national convention in 2010 after working with Dr. Laurence Ince, former director of NYU Biofeedback lab.  She completed her Doctor of Audiolgy degree through SALUS University (2007) and continues to encourage a team approach working with experts in psychology, education, medical doctors, and Speech-langue pathologists to continue to provide cutting edge research and therapy for all patients and their family.
